As the popularity of orthodontic care increases, straight teeth have become more and more important. However, many people avoid traditional braces due to the length of time they must wear the cumbersome metal brackets and wires. However, if you want to straighten your teeth without the mess of traditional braces, Invisalign could be the answer you have been looking for. Find out more with help from your Catonsville, MD dentist at Angel Dental Care.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system which uses clear, comfortable aligner trays made from plastic instead of the traditional metal wires and brackets. A dental laboratory uses a 3D model of your mouth to customize each tray especially for you based on a predetermined treatment plan. Patients wear each aligner tray for about two weeks before switching to the next tray in the series. The length of treatment and number of trays in the series varies from patient to patient though most treatments last about a year.
How does Invisalign work?
Much like traditional braces, Invisalign puts pointed pressure onto the teeth to move them into their desired positions. The pressure may be adjusted with small, tooth-colored bumps affixed to the teeth called attachments which allow some teeth to move more than others. At your initial appointment, your dentist takes a 3D scan of your mouth. A dental laboratory uses this model to create a video of your teeth during treatment, allowing you to see exactly where you teeth will move. After approval, the lab creates your trays and treatment begins.
